Yoshukai Karate Iaido Kata is a set of 8 waza selected by Grand Master Kaicho Yamamoto from the teachings of the Niten Ichi (二天一) Ryu, a koryū (ancient style) of Japanese swordsmanship conceived by the famous warrior Miyamoto Musashi.

The kata is demonstrated by Frederic Lecut, Instructor at the Yoshukai Dojo in Dothan, Alabama.

Connection with Nitten Ichi Ryu.

I know Nitten Ichi Ryu in theory does not include Iai, but is only KenJutsu. The only thing I know is that our Grand Master Kaicho Yamamoto, when I asked him the origin of this kata, told me he learned it from an old Master of Nitten Ichi Ryu.

@fredlecut The techniques are not from Niten Ichi-ryu though, so the info on the right is slightly misleading. It is more likely simply that the person he learnt them off; also studied iai of some description, but the kata displayed do not share any relevance with Niten Ichi-ryu.

Yes, it is possible, it is also possible I did not understand very well, because Yamamoto Sensei's English is not fluent, and it is not my native language either. Actually, he told me the name of the Master he learned from, but I could not remember it. I'll ty to ask him again the next time he comes to the US .

Lets be clear, the purpose of this video is not to show of, but to have the Yoshukai Karate Iaido kata displayed for Yoshukai students.

Of course it is not perfect, after all, I only started to study Judo in 1969, Kendo in 1987, and Iaido in 2007, so what do I know ?

good! an answer from some one who seem to not even know were good is in iai, his kaburi, cuts etc, there arejust at beginner level. to not be able to notice that in his iai your practice much be worse than his.
