It is my understanding that Clapton did not play Classical Gas at all . The version that is attributed to him is in fact played by Mason Williams and is from his " Hand Made ' recording . The tune in question was featured in a film - forget the name - in which Clapton was musical director / consultant and thus the confusion and web rumour .

hey, I'm not discouraging you from trying to learn this song, I'm just saying I've gotten pretty good at playing now and it's so much easier to learn great pieces like this one as I started this tutorial yesterday around six or seven and I'm now at lesson 3 after just playing a few hours since I have already learned the basic chords, rythm, alternate picking and such :) still, gl with it, you'll find out for yourself what works for you
