  • Thanx for posting this, Julien. However, you might want to correct the opus number: it's 70 (op. 75 is five piano pieces). And it's a remarkably original piece of music with a devilish vocal line. Kudos to ES for tackling a Finnish libretto (from Runo I of the Kalevala).

  • Please excuse my mystake. It has now been corrected.

    Kind regards,

    Julien

  • You know your Opera Julien. This is an exceptional excerpt and probably the best I have heard. ES needs no introduction, however by the ratings, people should be more exposed to her singing.

5 Big Stars. Thank you for posting. Paul.

  • You should not be so kind to me, Paul... or else I will be ashamed with so many compliments!!!!!

Nevertheless, I thank you very warmly for your kind words.

  • @BlueCougar

i dont know her who is she?

  • @LohengrinT Welcome to the wonderful world of Elisabeth Schwarzkopf.

  • This was so holy!

  • never in my life have I heard anyone screaming in pianissimo mode - this is totally new to me

  • I have never much cared for ES and her mannerisms, but this is just astonishing! This is in the top rank for this terribly difficult piece. She puts the vocal line across directly to the listener. Bravo!

  • This is stunning! What a great music, and Schwarzkopf as a great personality rising in the midth of the ocean. Who's conducting?

  • @CurzonRoad I don't understand the language but it sounds like a great interpretation and, as stated, a difficult vocal line. Thanks for forwarding, Doug, and thanks to Julien for posting!

  • Amazing... wonderful... words fail... THANK YOU!

  • Absolutely beautiful. Magesterial singing, without question. Thank you!

  • Superb performance of this very difficult piece.
