  • Channel 8 in New Haven, CT used the exact same music for their action news back then. Who copied who?

  • WPIX was first. They began using it in 1974.

  • Actually, "Move Closer to Your World" was first used in 1971-72 by WNAC-TV (now WHDH-TV) in Boston. Then the news director went to WPVI-TV in Philadelphia which was how this music became synonymous with that station's "Action News." WPIX actually first used "MCTYW" in 1977, three years after first adopting the name "Action News" for their newscasts.

  • I meant first as in being before WTNH, not first to use Move Closer to Your World. Southernmedia has them listed as using it beginning in 1974.

  • This upload is SUPERFLY.

  • @Boulton26 Nope WNHC 8 now WTNH used it first I know I lived in Suffolk county in the 60's & 70's & we recieved both stations & WNHC used it since the late 60's

  • They absolutely fucked up the theme. Why the fuck didn't they just end the show immediately instead of ruining the theme?!?!?

  • Dear Spectrum 10, WPIX stopped using MCTYW before WTNH started using it in 1984.

  • @Grouchomx This also was the late-night version of the newscast, which usually aired as I recall on Channel 11 in New York at 12:30, 1:00 or 1:30 AM and usually was done off-camera by a staff announcer (though I do remember Ralph Lowenstein, who did this newscast and frequently did the late night airings, did appear on-camera from time-to-time, usually on Saturday nights). There also as I recall was a midday version also done off-camera at 12:30 PM most weekdays.

  • @wmbrown6 I remember that. Ralph Lowenstein usually was off-camera, but occasionally would appear on camera for the late night one, especially late on Saturday night (early Sunday morning) for some reason.

  • @wmbrown6 And it's been the theme for WPVI-TV (6ABC) Action news ever since, and still is to this day.

This is the version, I remember growing up in New York, as I used to watch Channel 11's version.
