@cookdave Because Labour benefit from first past the post same way the tories do. Notice that for the last hundred years or so it's been Labour Torie Labour Torie? You got FPTP to thank for that. Why would they get rid of system that keeps them in power and allows them to do pretty much whatever they want when they are in power? If you vote AV it'll be a tiny step toward true democracy, one where the people have a direct role in the running of our country,

@cookdave because Beckett, Prescott, Blunkett all stopped Tony Blair from doing so - the same three Labour curmudgeons who are cosing- up to the Tories right now to say NO. And on 9th Feb 2010 Labour did just that - give us a referendum on AV!
