Put into perspective, this fish was big enough to eat the North American record blue and flathead catfishes. As they released the beast, the it blasted the water with its tail, putting out enough force to knock Dahlberg off his feet.

"It was the sheer power of this fish's pull that got me," Dahlberg said. "Realize that I've pulled on a lot of really big fish, from eleven-foot sturgeon to 1000-pound marlin. I've never pulled on anything that felt like it had any more juice than this thing did when it was full of beans. This was the first time in my life I wasn't ready to immediately fish again. I must have waited at least ten minutes before baiting up with another kubi."

The entire fight will air mid-February and again in May on Hunt for Big Fish, on the Versus network. Find more Dahlberg adventures at: www.huntforbigfish.com

  • amazing..

  • It is a Piraiba catfish also called a Lau-Lau. Brachyplatystoma filamentosum. The IGFA all tackle world record is 295 lb. 8 oz. from Brazil. If Larry Dahlberg, a very famous angler, had kept this fish, he would have the record. I read all 123 comments and at least 120 of them should be removed by the authors because they are either misplaced or show the stupidity of the author or both. Idiots.
