I just bought a CVT off of a Argocat but now i note DAF used a hydrolic system incorperated in the drive, how will I mimik that I wonder and venture further into youtobe..
The ironic part of the Variomatic is this happens to be exactly how many modern "infinitively" variable ratio automatic transmissions work, The belts are replaced by chains with clutch pads fastened to them and they operate inside a transmission housing, but never the less they are using the same principals. Part of me thinks this was a superior design, merely because maintenance would have consisted of changing a couple of belts, instead of a typical "trans overhaul"!
Some simply great footage here - but I have to disagree with "DAF abandoned car production altogether in the early 1970's"! Makes it sound like they simply gave up - the DAF77 became the Volvo 343 when Volvo bought out the car division and stayed in production into the 1990's. If only they knew how rare the RHD DAF 32 they cut up is they might have had second thoughts about it - I certainly would have bought it! :) ENJOY!
