For us bringing our 7 year old caching:
1) We know his limits and take breaks on long walks.
2) Having other kids come along makes it more fun!
3) Finding bigger caches usually has swag for trading which is more fun for him
4) We explore our surroundings and discover the beauty of nature.
5) We sing songs along the trail in the woods for fun
6) Bringing bear spray, first aid kit, flashlights, lots of water and snacks to name a few is peace of mind for mom and dad too!
7) Most of all, we hav

Hahaaha - "bribe with icecream!" That's what we do to my DAD! I'm always, "Just ONE more....? They we'll get icecream!" I think every single time we've gone out caching, there's been icecream involved. xD

Love it. This is already practice at "The Ant Farm" residence. Sometimes we throw in out to dinner afterwards with our caching friend who has 2 kids the same ages as out kids......they get along so well, that now we hang out quite often, and it's not always involve geocaching.

Any advice for planning geocaching events with kids in mind? I don't have kids, but I want to make my geocaching events more family-friendly.

@jess4clovers yes, my kids love it when they have prizes just for kids. For example maybe each cache they find they get a ticket to be entered to win some candy. My kids are not really that excited by geocaching swag. Find some incentive for themfinding all the caches. I would also stock the larger caches in the area you are caching with bigger/better stuff for kids. My kids tire of finding junk in caches. What about some catches that really get kid's involved(like a short tree climb cache?)

@mngeocaching These are great suggestions! Thank you. Do you have advice related to geocaching events that are more "social" in nature rather than focused on finding geocaches. Like events that are at restaurants or ice cream socials? I always try to find locations where there's kid-friendly food options and no bar, but I wasn't sure if as a parent, you might have other suggestions as well. :)
I love your vlog by the way. Great stuff!

@jess4clovers yes, I would say you are right on with staying away from bars. Speaking for my kids, fun pizza places are the best, that have stuff to do like video games. My kids don't really like to sit around and talk, they want to be doing something. Again, giveaway are fun for kids, if you giveaway kid friendly stuff to them. Ice Cream is a great idea too. Thanks for watching the vids!
