I have a 2005 f350 n started doing the same last year I started plugging it in to see if it would help and it did. This summer it started doing it again and it's getting worst. Some times I'm driving down the road and it will jerk a few times and the power has dropped down. My fuel economy has gone down too. If you find the fix to the problem problem let me know

I have the 2006 XL model and it sounds EXACTLY like that in the winter...start-up sequence and all!! I hate to plug it in overnight if I don't plan on driving the next day, but it always helps if I wake up four hours before I need to drive in the winter time to plug it in. Seems a little ridiculous for a 6 year old truck, but maybe it's normal for this model of diesel! Great truck on the road, though!!
Good luck!

@EFSforkliftguy my 2006 6litre was doing the same thing everybody has a cure from new bat fuel pump injectors new oil additives synthetics and the thing that worked for me is a block heater cord $25.00 at the jobbers -30 nights plug in and no probs
-
Rev x and a plug.

Try turning the key on multiple times to warm up.the glow plugs then start it. Plugging it in to the block heater wont hurt either
-
fuel pump? my truck sounds the same but my FICM tested fine...

check the oil level

@timbalero613 I have a 7.3 2005 ford I have had it for seven year it has ran fine till this year now mine is starting just like that i live and always have lived in montana but this year i find that if i plug in my engine heater when it is 30 degrees it states fine if i dont it starts like yours. fun ha our dealer is a joke don't like to go there very often good luck

ipr is bad, that controls oil preasure. it is under the turbo.
-
using a head bolt heater should make it start fine. and if it takes a while to start up even if it isn't cold then its probably the injectors or just the starter.
Ok well, I am having this same problem. But I live down south where it is very hot. I have seen different videos. But I cannot decide if it is a bad ficm, or injectors or what. I have not taken it to the local dealer because they will probably want to make the rest of the months rent with my ass, but need info or advise.....

@timbalero613 check out this guys video... this is EXACTLY what my 6.0 sounded like when my FICM was bad a few weeks ago. ww.youtube.com/watch?v=76N9_mjoODc I was able to fix the FICM myself....I also live in the south, GA. Let me know if yours sounds like this and I will help if I can!

Your truck is doing EXACTLY what my '05 6.0 is doing right now. When it first starts it sounds like the rods are about to come thru the hood.My diesel mechanic diagnosed it as the FICM. I'm pretty sure it's not the EGR, or injectors as I did the EGR delete almost a year ago.My mechanic said my batteries were about toast and if I installed 2 new batteries it could possibly help it did for a few weeks..my mechanic also said if I added a block heater will extend the FICM

@2222clod All 2005 already have a block heater. They do not, however all have the block heater cord. If yours does not have the cord, you can order it off ebay for less than $20.00 US. It helps a ton!!! My truck has been perfect since I had the oil cooler and egr cooler replaced!!! I am relieved. Also, I want to add, I love this truck despite the money I have had to put into it. You might need to have your oil cooler looked at/replaced. I made a video on installing the block heater cord.

@2222clod I just havent posted it yet. Best and cheapest investment to truck so far. starts immediately each crank now and warmup time is drastically decreased!! Thanks for the comment and good luck!
