Zi8 test and issues

Test on Kodak Zi8 camra.
Issues: at 720p vertical strips in low light. at 1080p camra is croping image, but vertical strips are gone.
How come camera is cropping more at higher resolution? Is 1080p just generated by software?

from the crops problem in 1080 it is not crop problem.

i read somewhere that kokak zi8 in 1080 have more zoom than other modes. thats why you think its cropping

There is a crop at 1080p compared to 720p.

Anyway video quality is worse at 1080p than 720p.

1080p I bet was created just for marketing. it's useless.

why you don't light the lights and record ? this way you don't have any problems lol

Best way to test the product is to put it in most demanding conditions.

I think what's happening is that the focal length is different at 1080p (likely a bug in the camera) and you become too close to the subject.

How far away were you from the subject?

I have the vertical lines too! The lines are not there in good light and the quality is fantastic. The lines like has been already said increase as you go from 720 to 720 60 fps and then disappear at 1080. I exchanged for a second time at best buy and same problem. I might try for a third but if it happens again, I'm gonna just live with it cuz I love the camcorder and again, the quality is amazing in good light/bright lamp light. It does suck though the sensor is defective

I also have a Zi8 and yes when clicking over to 1080p you do "zoom in" a little bit. Also, I'll confirm that the vertical striping in the 720 compression disappears in 1080p. Note: 1080p video is near useless in Mac OSX. I'm in Snow Leopard and using VLC will play it back just fine. I could use hep with this issue.

Kodak zi8 does not have optical zoom. The only way to zoom digitally is to crop. But if you know other ways, please explain.

digital zoom = crop = using less pixels on the sensor

Buy it and you ill see on your own. Yes it's cropping image at 1080p. And quality seems worse at 1080p.

1080p seems done only for marketing purposes. maybe 60fps can get some use.

Picture quality is not better than my cell phone.

why you say qulaity in 1080 is less ? did you see the videos on tv ?

be aware that most of computers now can't play 1080 and 720/60fps smoothly.you need a high end computer
