Stuck in Vermont 34: Circus Smirkus

7/1/07: This summer is the 20th anniversary of Circus Smirkus. It all began in the tiny Vermont town of Greensboro when founder Rob Mermin caught the circus bug.

What began as a summer break for farm kids has turned into an international extravaganza with contortionists from Mongolia, a hula hooper from Minnesota, and a tightrope walker from Colombia.

The kids work hard and when they are not performing, they are behind the scenes making sure everything is going smoothly.

During the 3 week rehearsal period they put the show together, develop heightened levels of trust and become a tight knit family.

The circus has become an established art form over the past 20 years and Circus Smirkus is a big part of this movement.

Their 7 week, 71 show New England tour begins now and runs through August.

I love Smirkus!!... Troy wanted me to join when I was younger.. I'm so out of shape now haha... This is so weird watching this because I know a bunch of these people... hehe
