  • except zionism and zionist immigrants to palestine occurred a few decades before hitler even began his genocidal rhetoric to power. The zionists strategy of trying to justify the creation of israel and all the mess that came with it on the native backs of the native palestinian's is long gone. All the myths and lies that stemmed from Time Immemorial are now outdated by the current discourse across campuses, diplomatic/intellectual circles--how to end the apartheid state and bring equality to all

  • Not a zionist, but as a person interested in and caring deeply about the issues i enjoyed it.

I think Israel is very far into the process of alienating most of the world outside the US-Israeli propaganda system, and making the future look terrible. The whole talk seemed naively detached, but Peter was surely the closest to truth. Zionism is a kind of tribalism. Id rather start from the premise that security is a right of all human beings. Otherwise, the selfish logic just perpetuates itself...

  • Beinart makes many good points. But he isn't alone. Sharon said the same thing near the end. And Olmert was elected basically on unilaterally pulling out of parts of the West Bank and Gaza. If it weren't for attacks from Hamas and Hezbollah, it would have been interesting to see what would have happened during his term in office.

Beinhart also makes good points about why younger people don't have the bond with Israel as older folks.

  • I don't always support Peter Beinart but he's speaking truth.

  • If Israel withdraws its soldiers from all spots in the West Bank and holds the three main settlement blocks... democratic Jewish majority and a lot of pissed off Palestinians. Maybe that's what has to be since even with a negotiated two-state solution, there will be a lot of pissed off Palestinians.

  • @gbshalev30 There's no reason to put "Peter Beinart" in quotation marks, because "Peter Beinart" is actually Peter Beinart's real name... unlike "gbshalev30" which is just your user Id.

  • Peter Beinart raises a good point: why don't Palestinians who live east of the Green Line have citizenship and rights equal to those of their neighbors, Jewish settlers who also live east of the Green Line?

  • who the hell cares what "peter beinart" thinks? Is he like the self anointed spokesperson of the Jewish people?
