The riviera maya is a pristine river system that provides Mexican residents on the Yucatan Peninsula with the only source of freshwater in the area. The unique river system is currently under threat from human contamination, pollution and plans for development.

  • Hello, thank you for watching the documentary. I apologise for not creating the documentary in Spanish, it was filmed in a very short period of time and with very little resources. I will have to practice my Spanish and can then update! We made this documentary for the purpose of creating international awareness for people who travel to the area and are unaware of the situation. This is one step in forming international awareness and achieving UNESCO recognition for the fragile ecosystems.

  • @MrSharkey1 No conozco un solo aeropuerto que genere buenos ingresos para cientos de trabajadores....usalmente los locales son los que menos ganan...y esta no sería la excepción....

  • @dagobertortiz Yes, we tourists and travelers are the problem and the solution. We have to pressure our government to diplomatically propose to the Mexican government a sustainable, environmentally friendly development plan for the so-called Riveria Maya. A very difficult proposition at best. Unfortunately, the dinero is the bottom line!

  • How do you expect the damn government to care about the environment if bastard calderon has shares on the Velas resort? Yes we do need jobs in Mexico even if mexicans make a misery, but we can't destroy nature to get jobs more than airports we need to STOP HAVING F...KING BABIES there are too many ugly humans already and nobody things we have to stop breeding like roaches we should be having just one baby per couple we're already 7 billion sh*t factories!

  • Why in englishhhhh!!!, this happens in México, here we speak spanish, I hope that this was also film in spanish. Only divers and biologist are interviewed, why? There are more sectors playing in the role.

  • You can see at Murray (2007) Constructing Paradise: The Impacts of Big Tourism in the Mexican Coastal Zone. and Torres & Momsen (2008), Gringolandia: The Construction of a New Tourist Space in Mexico. Google it...regards...

  • to bad the cave divers in mexico can agree on anything. Mexico is in need of as many jobs as it can get. and a New airport will employ hundreds with good incomes. Yes the cenotes are beautiful and should be preserved and the best way to do this is for the citizens and divers of Mexico to band together and put aside their childish egos .

  • I dont know where you got your info but you are really wrong the majority of the resorts are not owned by US citizens.

  • muy buen trabajo, esperar en el govierno mexicano me parese utopia, talvez la poblacion mondial puede hacer algo. El humano es tan ignorante, esperamo comprenda la importancia.

  • Curiously, American citizens are responsible for the vast expansion of the Riviera Maya. They are the ones who bought the jungle, cenotes, beaches. Now they are concerned about the serious environmental damage that their lifestyle has produced the world. Be active and consistent, say no to the development of the Riviera Maya, do not buy houses, land or memberships of the great holiday clubs.
