  • One problem with this film. Those railway carriages were not filmed in Glenfield. They had not run passenger trains there in decades before this. and when it did it was VERY slow... That passenger train was going at speed. The Glenfield Depot was very small and backed up to the old railway line but it was only a single track good route by the time this movie was shot.

  • Great bit of film. I have a lot of 8mm movie of old trucks. Must post some of it one day.

  • i gotta query the date though as it shows a train going by.the swannington line was gone by then through glenfield.

  • i used to play down that concrete yard as a kid in glenfield!!!

i believe that driver may be fred swanwick.he used to keep his wagon in a purpose built garage behind his house, opposite ours.the garage is still there.it's massive!!

it was great playing down the industrial(as we called it) cos it was also right next door to the palitoy factory who made action man!! spent hours rummaging through the skip looking for rejected stuff!!

    that is great footage.

  • i remember that these used to pull wheelies when heavily loaded , the driver had to go down to nearly first gear to negotiate a steep hill out side our school on sandringham ave newton mearns magic sound

  • love it! wish there was more like this thanks for posting.

  • Very nice. There's something about old film footage that gives it the edge over video. There used to be one of these Foden Cement mixers in a scrap yard near to me and it was there for years, then someone else took over the yard and it went.

  • Brilliant that -wish there was more!!

  • Fantastic little film, it's an s21
