Partial Transcript: "On Tap Burger Classic Beer

Hi. Im James Knott and this is your Better Beer Authority. Today we are talking about Burger Classic Beer from the Hudepohl-Schoenling Brewing Company. Even though it is billed as a Cincinnati tradition it is actually canned by City Brewery in Lacrosse, Wisconsin.

The Burger family originally brewed Burger Classic in Cincy beginning in 1934 - but strong regional and national competition caused the demise of the brand in recent years. Burger Classic was revived in May of 2009.

This is an American Adjunct Lager with 4.62 percent ABV, 12 IBUs and 150 Calories per serving. Its available in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. The suggested retail price is $5.99 per 12 pack and it is intended to reach bargain shoppers and beer drinkers excited about the revival of a Cincinnati tradition.

Burger Classic feels like it should be consumed straight from the can. However, if you are feeling a little uppity, then it is recommended that you drink if from a pilsner glass or pint glass.

A pint glass is a very common vessel for consuming beer. An American pint is 16 oz and is sometimes called a Shaker. This nickname comes from the fact that these glasses were originally used for mixing drinks they were never designed for drinking beer out of. Most bars like them because they are cheap to produce - and easy to stack and clean.

Another common type of pint glass is the British Nonick Imperial Pint. An imperial pint is 20 fluid ounces and is the common serving size in the United Kingdom. The Nonick part refers to the round bump towards the top of the glass. This helps the glasses stack without sticking together and helps to prevent nicks to the rims. It also makes the glasses easier to hold.

Q&A: Does Burger Classic continue a long, proud tradition or does this revival strikeout?

Without a numerical rating, Im not sure if Im supposed to like this beer. Thats why Im glad to tag Burger Classic with a rating of (???) on the BBA scale.

  • Definitely biased being a West-sider, but this beers value for money is unmatched. I would drink this any day over Bud Light, Busch Light, Keystone. It is meant to be consumed from the can and it just goes down so smooth. It excels at what it is meant to be.

  • @Goofstauf As long as your happy, that's all that matters.

  • Ouch, I think this beer didn't get a fair shake in this vid. Obviously it's not the tastiest thing around, but I would seriously give it a 7/8 based on value alone. At $6 for a 12 pack, it's just one more reason to buy local :)

  • @ChuckMcChip This beer isn't made in Ohio though. It's contract brewed in a different state and shipped here. It's cheap. I can't deny that. But it didn't really taste that good. I would only buy it for the nostalgia factor with the can's label.

  • @AgileHProductions Meh, true about being shipped from another state, but at least the Brewing company, Hudephol-Schoeling, is Cincinnati based. It's still a good excuse to not buy from the big guys. It would be nice to buy this over a Bud if it was available in the Oxbox :(

  • @ChuckMcChip Don't get me wrong. I would rock the Burger at a tailgate just for fun.
