As a musical theater student at a major conservatory, I can say from experience that Laura's sound is much more what MT students target. Kelli has a fantastic operatic sound, but she has problems bringing her voice forward the way Laura does.

Your emotion is impeccable!! Your voice is a tad to loose, as in it could be stronger, but you are AMAZING! I felt every word you said.
-
OH MY GOD. i LOVE her she is the best Nelly in South Pacific by FAR!
-
she is FANTASTIC, I'm totally addicted!
-
omg is that the voice of the disney girl characters? if i remember
-
Kelli O'WHO ???
- but seriously: if Sinatra had taken over a role from Pavarotti, would people have said "well this Sinatra's good, but he doesn't have Pavarotti's training" ? OK, my analogy is extreme but you get my drift? Such a case would have been a bold move by the casting director - as this casting of Nellie Forbush apparently was. I've never seen a show on Broadway, never been to New York, never visited America. To see Laura Osnes one day I just might. She's magical. What a voice !!!

she is absolutely incredible!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I just found out Laura was the winner in the tv grease talent search-- I saw much of that - Didn't realize it was the same girl -- Didn't dawn on me-- thought she was excellent on that grease audiiton[and of course she won] --Very bright future indeed!!!
-
this is the first time I've heard Miss Osnes-She does a very nice job here -pretty too--Let's face it - they hire the cream of the crop to sing lead roles in new york in broadway revivals. Miss O'hara was great but I am sure either Nelly would have been a great experience -I saw sarah jesssica in Annie and enjoyed it as much as I would have with Andrea McCardle I;m sure of that! This is splendid!

I think Laura is a wonderful singer and actress. I love her belt at the end. While there's no denying Kelli O'Hara owns this role on stage. (Can't beat the acting chops & classical soprano voice she has) Laura brings a new vision into the character of Nellie Forbush. I love seeing fresh portrayals of iconic characters. As for who is more attractive. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But I personally think they're both stunning. Good luck on your final performance tomorrow Laura! :)

Just saw Laura in South Pacific---my husband and I went for our 30th Anniversary! She is so talented, sweet and upbeat---it is pure joy to be her audience.
-
@iRebekah31 Yes, twice. Once for a year as Sandy Dumbroski in the most recent revival. Then she did a regional show as Kim McAfee in Bye Bye Birdie. She did a workshop performance of a Broadway bound show " Pride and Prejudice" which still needs to find a producer to bring it to Broadway. While she was working with this opportunity, she was auditioning for other roles to replace people. She auditioned for South Pacific, kept getting call backs. And won the role.
-
I saw South Pacific twice already and all along i thought it was Kelli O'Hara performing...they really look alike...so let me get this straight, before Laura played the role of Nellie, it was Kellie??
-
I saw her yesterday as Nellie. She was AMAZING!!!!
She sounds great here too.
Thanks for the upload.
-
finally someone reasonable in the youtube ignorance!
-
yes, but she's also been in a lot of ja jolla shows that haven't made the transfer...bonnie and clyde, for one
i agree with you kelli is a more trained performer, she's also been in more. she's also not 24, as i believe laura is. she's got some time to mature
i think juju1981 should probably think a little more about talent and less about looks. they're both absolutely stunning
-
it's broadway in bryant park, they're not trying to act.
she's pretty incredible live, i saw it with her.
ps, they've both been on broadway multiple times.
they're both trained and good
-
While I do agree with all of what you've said, I do love Laura Osnes, and you really can't compare the two...O'Hara is untouchable.
This is the ONLY song I prefer Laura on to Kelli. When Kelli sings this, while it is gorgeous, she sounds so sure of everything, and Laura puts a slight flirty edge on this, which is what I think this song needs.
Laura is so awesome:) I met her, and she's so sweet!
