why do sumo wrestlers have to ONLY wear mawashi's? why couldnt they just wear normal clothes?

Because sumo is a traditional as well as national sport. It wouldn't be sumo without the mawashi and the rituals and the hair. I know where you're going though. I suppose if they were looking to expand sumo, make it more global, they might want to change a few things.
