  • "@gnosisandlight You didn't explain it, all you said was: "In regards to absolutes handicapping thought, that is simply not true" then went on about how useful certainty was by giving the historic argument without addressing the actual critcism of it!"

You have a real attention problem. Watch the video directly after "simply not true". I give examples of how thought is applied under an absolute framework.

  • LOL does Ockham's razor inhibit thought? BTW which thinkers did you have in mind? I tell you what, you collect all the pre-eminent theistic relativists and I will compile the absolutists and lets see which stack is most impressive.

  • In fact part of the video I was responding to acknowledged this greater certainty. He just called the uncertainty an advantage in that the relativist has to think harder to justify something as wrong.

  • I think you should re-watch the video. I do explain why moral absolutism is better than moral relativism. On an epistemic level absolutism offers more certainty than relativism. But more importantly absolutism is infinitely more capable of resolving problems than relativism. There is no question (X is wrong). -----

  • Which question were you indicating that you would like answered. About historical theists not being an argument in itself. If you are mentioning the above video you are quite wrong. If the intent of the above video was to show that there is no in-congruency between theism and morality then the presentation of theists who buck that assertion are absolutely necessary. Context is important yes?

  • You have only shown the positive effects on religion (an asymmetrical view). Many leaders have used religion for their own purposes to wipe out other groups (Hitler was one).

The argument that you need religion to do/ understand what is 'good' is incorrect. It may help some to to good, but may also give a moral license to others to do bad.

Morality preceded theism, and exists independently of it.

  • sigh beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :;) Amen!!!

  • mother theresa the symbol of "worlds greatest goodness"...though her intentions may have been true to the catholic faith, she caused way more death and suffering by discouraging birth control in impoverished countries. she could have just said nothing but she taught that it was wrong.

  • fix your spelling mistakes....that's my 2 cents

  • I have written a full critique of your reasoning in this video; follow the link on my profile or alternatively remove spaces from the following url:

(I had to mung it somewhat to get past YouTube's filter)
