Shackleton is one of the people who said he experienced the 'Third Man Factor'. That is he realised that there was an extra person on the last part of the expedition that was simply coming along for the journey and helping to guide him. Many explorers have noted this extremely bizarre phenomenon. Who is this extra person that appears? No one knows.
