The Āniwaniwa art project by Rachael Rākena and Dr Brett Graham is based upon research regarding the purposeful flooding of a small hydro town to make way for the development of the of the Karapiro hydro-electric power
station in 1947.
Their installation drew high praise from leading international art critic Robert Storr, Dean of the Yale School of Art, and led to the duo exhibiting their work at the 2007 Venice Biennale in Italy.
