Night Of The Stormrider (1992)

Iced Earth's second effort is a concept album with a mystical, horrific story line. It traces the path of a man who is betrayed by religion and turns away from it in anger. The dark forces of nature reach out to this enraged man and use him as their vessel to bring death and destruction to Earth. Through it all, he feels no remorse for his deeds, and upon reaching the end, numbly accepts his fate of eternity in Hell. Musically, the band picked up a new singer and drummer for this album. The singing is a definite improvement from the debut, ranging from a powerful growl to a Halford-like scream. Such skill is necessary to portray the wide range of feeling on this album. There's quite a bit of background keys on this disc, some choral moaning, and a memorable piano outro, which all add to the dark mood. There are also several excellent acoustic passages seamlessly interwoven with the driving guitar riffs. The music meshes perfectly with the story, magnifying the hatred, manic joy, confusion, and sadness present in the lyrics. After listening to this musical masterpiece, one cannot help but to feel some of the sadness and guilt that the Stormrider was unable to feel for himself.

Jon Schaffer | Vocals, Lead Vocals on "Stormrider", Rhythm Guitar
Randy Shawver | Lead Guitar
John Greely | Lead Vocals
Dave Abell | Bass Guitar
Richey Secchiari | Drums

  • @immortalspammer

you probobly didnt get ur fill of daily dose of vitamin man fucking.

  • @ImmortalSpammer Wtf is your problem ?

  • @camperkiller888 no i came here because i like metal. youre probably poser fag

  • thumbs up if you came here because of brütal legend

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow Actually, pop, rap and grunge almost killed it too. other than that I agree. most of the "metalheads" i know like all those shitty poser bands.

  • @AtomicRichie Most of us, like me, with a brain in our heads are "close-minded" in the sense that we simply don't accept shitty music. We've closed our minds to things that suck, regardless of genre.

Admittedly, there are people who simply hate everything not Metal or Punk because they're a bunch of try-hards trying to be more credible amongst other metalheads and punks, but we call them posers, plain and simple. Maybe that's what people are mistaking for metalheads and punks? Who knows!

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow To support point the first emo band was a punk band called Rites of Spring, which later became Fugazi. But I am guilty of enjoying Avenged Sevenfold every now and then (I can't wait to see how many hate comments I'm going to have after that one) and it's not that I don't know my metal, I just like them. But as Henry Rollins once said you'll never find a more narrow minded person than a punk or a metalhead.

  • @lXMaverickXl Emo never tried to kill Metal, it started as an underground evolution of Hardcore Punk, until it got completely bastardized by the mainstream. The only thing that died there was real Emo. Punk never tried to kill Metal, most Metal exists because of Punk. Hard Rock? See Punk, except "ALL Metal" instead of "Most Metal". Hardcore? Hardcore Punk? See Punk, that made Metal better.

Only thing that kills Metal are shitty Metal bands and the posers that worship them.

  • Like a Nevermore/King Diamond/Windir mixed. Fuck I love Iced Earth

  • Fuck , pure evill! Epic sound!! greting from Greek! αδερφια σηκωστε με ψηλα . να δουν οτι ημαστε και εδω!!

  • WAH-WAH-WHEW-WOW-WHEOWWEH.

  • @chitownpunx2007 well that I can agree with, but really blues started it all for both genres...when I look back i see punk and metal growing side by side and if anything drawing influence from each other. This is of course most likely just my own observations.

  • @lXMaverickXl i never said it was i was asaying alot of metal genre came from xcore punk n old metal mixerd it made music like, thrash,nu metal, alt, etc look it up

  • @DragonHunterSkull ya gotta love brutal legend

  • Jutro w Stodole złe czysto! :)

  • Fun Fact:

The band Nirvana listened to double sided tape with the first Iced Earth album on one side in their van while on trips to recording sessions for Nevermind, so therefore, Nevermind was influenced by Iced Earth.

    And now you know...

  • @chitownpunx2007 I'm telling you...if you really look at those bands that defined metal they were not punk...

  • actually punk came from garage rock and lots of forms of metal were a mixter of punk and metal otherwise alot of metal to day n music like alternative and such wouldnt be around hardcore punk plus metal its in history of music

  • @emilio124567 So you're saying that bands like Sabbath and Maiden were punk? Metal was spawned from blues...

  • @lXMaverickXl smaall mistake metal came from punk xD
