Samsung LE40A536 40" LCD TV with an odd problem.

Every single capacitor in the PSU has been replaced (except the two primary 400V ones), plus a few on the mainboard. TV turns on and works just fine, but restarts after about 15 seconds.. over and over and over again.

Factory reset (service menu) didn't help. Tried erasing the settings EEPROM (AT24C256B) within circuit by shorting SCL and SDA pins.. no go..
Currently waiting for a new SO8 EEPROM to arrive.

i'm lost :(

Oh and yeah.. TV is just out of warranty by a few months of course..

Powersupply board: IP-211135A / BN44-00199A
Mainboard: BN41-01145A
Exact model: LE40A536T1F
Model Code: LE40A536T1FXXC
Made in Slovakia
EU only model (220-240V ; DVB-T ; PAL)

  • Don't forget to update your post on quuq...

  • @MightyGimp I would if i could remember the goddamn password. The annoying ads all over the place don't help either.. which is why I've abandoned that thread on quuq mostly and posted on badcaps net instead. (same model number in topic title, should be easy enough to find..)

  • Hi there I solved this problem is very very simple just enter in service menu faster than 10 seconds:stand by tv,pres faster by remote controler NFO MENU MUTE and POWER buton. And now just click enter 1.Option Table(Service) faster and the second menu just change function "Ready" to On.Tested and work 100%.Sorry for my bad english

  • @ciochicip Thx for the tip. I've already put the TV back together with the new mainboard I've bought and it's in the living room now. I will probably take it apart again some day because my fan mod (80mm fan at 3.3V above the PSU cause it runs so hot) isn't quite effective enough (probably need to rewire it to 5V).

When I do that, I'm definitely gonna try this. I currently don't remember what that was set to. I took some photos of the service menus but I can't seem to find them right now..

  • Hi there, having the same issue, how did you fix it?

  • @adriempraga Bought a new mainboard (BN41-01145A) on ebay. Wasn't cheap (50eur), but it was the only one in 3 months, so I grabbed it while I could.

TV has been working perfectly since I replaced it, so it's definitely a mainboard problem. My guess is either the 256KBit EEPROM is bad / corrupted (and I didn't get an exact replacement (Atmel AT24C256B)) or the main firmware is corrupted somehow (which would be bad cause there's no firmware update available anywhere to fix it.. typical samsung)

  • @Knaeckebrotsaege Yes, the ads are over the top. I will never understand placing multiple ad blocks at the top of a page, where titles and headers normally go, making it hard to know where you are and where the menu buttons and controls are. Also, it pushes the relevant content down. Many sites now try to disguise the ads and make them look like part of the site proper, I suppose to "trick" people into clicking, so you don't know what's ads. Others on Quuq have complained about it too. Oh well.

  • @ciochicip Do you know what that option is actually for? Why would there be an option which causes the TV to cycle on and off so fast that the user can barely get into the service menu in time to change it?

  • @adriempraga I didn't fix it yet. Waiting for a "new" powersupply and an eeprom for the mainboard (AT24C256B). If that doesn't fix i then I'll probably give up.

This TV has been a massive waste of time and money so far :(

Needless to say that replacement mainboards aren't available anywhere.. just my luck
