My mistake. Considering your location this is definitely Phidippus audax. Phidippus regius (whose males look identical) isn't native to the western united states.

haha yeah, wolf spiders are way more intimidating than that.

All spiders are venomous, that is to say they all inject a toxin when they bite. However there is a great deal of variance in the effect the venom will have. Some don't hurt at all but resulting in little more than a mosquito bite. Most are comparable to bee stings.
Only a few spiders can be considered dangerous, those with neurotoxic or necrotoxic venom. Such as black widows and brown recluses respectively.

Horrible creature. :)

Octocular vision, please ;-)

Damn that's a big bastard. I bet ten cents he could take down a baby.
If you want, you can Email me the pictures and I'll put them together in a video, Just shoot me a PM. I could even add a song in the background or something.
Oh, and if you do PM me, just know I'm not as dorky as my channel lets on. I made it when I was, and I'm too lazy to change it.

@smashballbrawler Thanks for the offer but I only have a few and only a couple came out well. It'd not really be worth it.

It's not a wolf spider. Wolf spiders are the family, lycosidae. This belongs to the salticidae family (jumping spiders). I'm pretty sure this specimen is Phidippus Regius, the Regal Jumping Spider. Although it might be a different species of the same genus with close resemblance, such as P. audax.

@Libertarianist You're right. I checked it later after I made filmed this a few months ago. I put an annotation on it to point that out.
