I learn something new every day. Thanks for the informative post. This is a historical song as it might be one of the first times that a hit sitcom was used to advertise/promote a musician.

Wow!
This is incredible!
I had no idea this was a song before The Brady Bunch (re) recorded it!
Thanks for posting this!

Same guy - listen to the voice. RJ (Peterick) and Gateley were part of a small circle of friends/associates that included, among others, Austtin Roberts and producer George Tobin. Tobin, who produced Sad Eyes, was also part of a writing/production team with Austin and Johnny Cymbal that produced, among other things, Cymbal's 1969 hit "Cinnamon" under the name Derek. Roberts also helmed the 1975 Tuesday project that was meant to be RJ's comeback, but the record ("Haunted") didn't catch on.

going to your other part of your post...is it the same Robert John that wrote this that sang Sad Eyes?
-
You're probably right about the Brady Bunch doing a more credible version of this, if only because it sounds like something a bunch of kids would sing thinking they've made a Big Statement, but I think Vicky was reacting to the record label more than the record itself, although I'm not sure what the problem was...
-
And I agree with Vicky below...YUK! I'll take the Brady's redux of the song.
-
Robert John? As in.. Sad Eyes Robert John???

Oh my goodness..I had no idea that this was an actual song...I thought this song was actually recorded by Barry Williams for the Brady Bunch series...very interesting...either way..I love the lyrics!
