please comment or rate. The Buddhist perspective of the self and psychological egoism. Anatta Lakkhanna sutta. If you already know about psychological egoism it would be more interesting.

  • To say there is no good & bad is contrary to the Buddha's teaching. Whilst the teaching of non-duality is found extensively in modern Buddhism, the Buddha himself did not emphasise such a doctrine. In the Mahacattarisaka Sutta, the Buddha advised anyone who rejects the notion there is "right" and "wrong" should be censured. When the mind is free from self belief, it will understand there is good & bad but this good & bad is not-self or anatta. 'Good ' & 'bad' are not self delusion.

  • In is incorrect to say the self is a slave of desires or to say the idea of "I" makes you want to crave pleasures.

    In reality, from pleasure comes craving; from craving comes attachment; and from attachment comes the idea of "I".

    The "I" is born out of craving rather than craving is born out of the "I".

  • As far as i have understood the MahacattarisakaSutta it is not at all a contradiction 2 the teaching of non-duality.The Buddha does not refer 2 "right" & "wrong" but 2 "healingsome"respektively"unhe­alingsome"views according 2 the path(arya astangika marga).A path is needed 4 those who do not realise anatta.2 hold on a path after realising anatta is like holding on a raft after having reached the other shore.Buddha didn't want people 2 b confused&there4 censured nihilistic nonduality preachers.

  • Also, the Buddha strongly praised giving or generosity. To say a generous person is the same as a thief certainly does not accord with the views of the Buddha. In brief, this is not what the Buddha taught.

    If you wish to understand what the Buddha taught, it is best to study the scriptures rather than to study Walpola Rahula or Buddhaghosa.

    Walpola Rahula may have called his book "What the Buddha Taught" but some things in your video are not what the Buddha taught.

  • The idea of 'self' comes from a natural pre-disposition. Buddha taught all human beings are born with a tendency towards conceit and becoming (anusaya). The tendency is inherently ignorant. So self belief does not come from sense objects or thoughts. Self belief comes from ignorance.

  • It is the same with the notion of "doer". An enlightened being acts without a doer because they are enlightened. But most human beings act from self belief therefore most doing results from a doer.

  • There are many accuracies in your video but also inaccuracies. The inaccuracies arise from your quoting various scholars, such as Buddhaghosa. To say there is mere suffering but no sufferer is contrary to the Buddha's teaching. Buddha taught due to self-view there arises suffering. Similarly, when self-view ends, suffering will end. Thus, there cannot be suffering without a sufferer because suffering occurs when their is self view. Also, suffering ends when self view ends.
