Your Daily Johnny Mathis Hit Parade

I think this song really typifies Johnny's simultaneous big breaks in life when he was offered to try out for the Olympics or take an opportunity in New York for a singing career within the same week. Both needed an immediate answer. He had a talk with his father on this, and his father encouraged the singing career. The rest is history. Another sleeper hit, "At the Crossroads" is a time in one's youth at the threshold of adulthood, questioning what direction one should take with his life.

  • cybernautev, what a wonderful song this is, where do you get all these songs? I have a source who gets me the older songs Johnny has recorded which are in the hundreds but you have a source who gets you songs I can't get. So with that said, I'm going to get one of those programs so I can capture the mp3 sound from the videos, you've got songs I must have. Thanks for the upload and this song's lyrics do really speak about Johnny's life. I'm glad he decided to sing for us instead of be an athlete.

  • I get the songs off Ebay or used records at Good Will. After a while I recognize all the albums since a lot of the same ones circulate through, but once in a while I notice one I don't have and bid on it. It's such a treat when I find one I don't have, especially early Johnny and can't wait to listen to the cuts.

  • cybernautev, off ebay huh? Yes, I've noticed a lot of Johnny's LP's there but I don't have anything right now to use to convert the LP track to mp3 but will have soon. A friend sent me some of Johnny's albums, he had extras and they are very early recordings so I want to be able to extract those songs that aren't on here. What we Johnny fans do and I'm glad we can upload his music here for the whole world to hear.

  • I can't wait to hear what you've got.

  • i am blessed to be able to hear so much of him in this morning and also learning a bit of him too from your notes. Talking about this, can you enlighten me what kind of sport was he preparing for the Olympic. It'd be great, if you can tell me. Thanks in advance

  • Johnny, at 5'7", went to high jumping meets with another teammate, over 6' tall. He commented the pair were like "Mutt and Jeff", yet they won most of their meets. Johnny was asked to try out for the Olympics in the high jump in the same week he got an offer to for a singing career. Johnny was written up in the newspapers for track and field, high jump, basketball, and singing while attending San Francisco State. He's still listed on a SF placque among those setting high jump records.

  • It will be a while, like I said I don't have anything to capture the audio from the LP tracks right now but I will.

  • Oh the athlete you speak of I think is the great Bill Russell, he and Johnny were indeed friends and team mates at the great school of San Francisco State.

  • I ditto divolino. This is all so very Wonderful, Wonderful. What a blessing. What good taste you all have.

  • The Lp is Called Up Up and away!
