ZHANG:
The Dalai Lama gave a lecture in Tokyo entitled "Light of Human Nature." About 2,400 people attended. Here's more from our Tokyo bureau.

STORY:
Following a talk in Fukuoka, the 14th Dalai Lama was invited to lecture in Tokyo.

The Dalai called for love and a forgiving heart in the lecture and expected attention on this issue from more people.

He said, " 'Awaken our soul, serve society' is the theme of this lecture. Peaceful heart balances a family, and consequently brings about world peace. This is not only a statement from religious thinking, but also ethics in real life."

[Pamage Rilangjie, Law Professor, Touin University]:
"The Dalai Lama's lecture in Japan, as well as a convivial party, provided an opportunity for many Chinese people in Japan to learn more about Tibet, and this is really exciting. I think it is also very important that media like you relay the truth about Tibet to people in China. Another attendee said the Dalai's speech is helpful to the world, that it brings about peaceful messages which can balance the level of virtue."

[Wang Jin Zhong, Vice-Chairman, Chinese Democracy Frontier]:
"I think the Dalai has very deep affection for the Chinese people. What he wants is self-govenment, rather than going independent. I hope the Chinese govenment can accept him in his life, recognize religious freedom and freedom of speech, and resolve the confrontation between Tibet and mainland China."

  • 达赖喇嘛万岁 - Long live the Dalai Lama

  • "Since the occupation of Tibet, Communist China has been publishing distorted propaganda about Tibet and its people.

It is, in fact, very difficult for them to find the truth.

Sadly, as a result, a negative impression of Tibetans has arisen in the minds of some of our Chinese brothers and sisters.

Therefore,I would like once again to urge our Chinese brothers and sisters not to be swayed by such propaganda, but, instead, to try to discover the facts about Tibet.

  • Responding to questions on his decision to devolve his formal responsibilities to the elected Tibetan leadership, His Holiness said "he has been committed to democracy and freedom."

  • Complete idiot. Name one person that Dalai Lama killed or enslaved. Nada! Tibet consisted of three provinces before china invaded in 1959. Only one part is now considered Tibet by chinese rulers. Tibet belongs to Tibetan and Tibetans will never give up fight for independence.
