Margaret Dumont in her last appearance, fittingly with Groucho. She appeared with Groucho when Groucho hosted "The Hollywood Palace". This was taped 1965-03-03 and Margaret died on 1965-03-06.

  • So sad to learn Margaret Dumont died shortly after this was taped. This was one of the truly great "teams" in comedy history. I couldn't keep a straight face. Thanks for posting this treasure.

  • One of the biggest misnomers was that Margaret did not get the jokes. She was just a great actress who could keep a straight face. This is great to see that she enjoyed this. She died awhile after this performance.

  • Groucho: "Meanwhile, I'd like to say a few words..."

    Margaret: YES.

Trying to get him back on the script, for what it was worth. Does sound a bit like an editorial comment. ha

She was 83 and he was 75. Who can we find in Hollywood nowadays to pull this sort of thing off?

Wish she'd been with him in the "Doctor Hackenbush" number, too.

  • Thanks for uploading this. Margaret Dumont was a classy lady through and through.

  • @WizardGlik I don't think it was filmed in color. A lot of shows back then were filmed either in B&W _or_ color, but not both. If you've ever seen old shows from the 1960s where they use taglines such as "Filmed in living color" or other such things, it was because filming in color for television was a brand new thing. So the odds are that this program was only filmed in B&W, and this video here looks to be either from VHS tape or some kind of kinescope.

  • She died 2 days after this was filmed.

  • I find it soft to believe this only exists in black and white.

  • Is that Groucho's daughter doing the intro? Not bad looking at all. I like the Haile Sallasee (sp?) reference.

  • How cool is this!? Thank you for showing this! I just saw this being metioned on the Dick Cavett show on You Tube

  • No groaning, please indeed!
