This digicam runs a CHDK firmware customized to perform on-screen ViBe video segmentation. ViBe is a video segmentation algorithm designed by Marc Van Droogenbroeck and Olivier Barnich. This video demonstrates that ViBe is fast enough be embedded on a regular digital camera. For more information, visit http://www.ulg.ac.be/telecom/research/vibe/ If you want to use ViBe in your own software, we provide an implementation at http://www2.ulg.ac.be/telecom/research/vibe/download.html For a comprehensive technical description of the ViBe algorithm, download our IEEE TIP paper at http://orbi.ulg.ac.be/bitstream/2268/81248/2/Barnich2011ViBe.pdf

  • And how do you model the background in a long period of time, you genius? Vibe is a background modelling algorithm robust to environment changes like shadows, noise, autolight correction, waving trees and reflections.

  • Wow, so maby Canon's DIG!C Processes are as powerful as they say they are...

  • can it work in night???

  • This does take a fair amount of processing power.

  • Its nothing spectacular. When it detects motion if i have the cam in my shaky hands, that would be great. But this can be done with reference-image substraction.

  • It would be so lovely if Canon actually supported the development of 'mods'. I mean they are a hardware company...

  • Pretty interesting!

  • This is hot stuff and exciting for all legacy-Canon owners, I will try it on my S2

  • oh wow. well done sir/s.

  • Nice work Olib42!!
