I cannot launder, for it rains.
If it be fine, suddenly come the clouds,
lightning, thunder, and the air is stormy again,
that I may not win my trial.
Thus without cause harm is done me,
I serve all men but all want the death of me;
so life to live is of no avail to me.

Si je lave mon linge il se met à pleuvoir.
Si le temps est au beau, aussitôt il se couvre,
il tonne, il fait du vent, 1'air de nouveau se trouble
afin de me gâter ce quej'ai entrepris.
C'est ainsi sans raison que 1'on me fait du tort,
je sers tout un chacun, et chacun veut ma mort.
A quoi bon, dites-moi, vivre une telle vie?

Ich kann keine Wäsche waschen, ohne daß es regnet.
Ist das Wetter schön, sofort bewölkt es sich,
blitzt, donnert und die Lufi trübt sich wieder.
Deshalb kann ich meine Aufgabe nicht erfüllen.
So ohne Grund geschieht mir Unrecht, der ich
jedem Menschen diene, undjeder wünscht mir den
deshalb taugt mein Leben nicht zum Leben.
