There's very little hint that "A.D. 2000" is a song about Amadou Diallo, the West African man shot at forty-one times and killed by New York City police officers in February 1999. On the track, she grabs an acoustic guitar and takes on the voice of the slain immigrant, imagining him in heaven defiantly saying, "No, you won't be namin' no buildings after me."

Saw her perform live in D.C. right before Mama's Gun was released. X-wife's best gift to me ever... Her best friend was a back up singer (Bag lady video, girl in Yellow). I was backstage and met her, puffed one in her dressing rm and then experienced the entire show from the stage. B-E-A-utiful night, never forget it. Too bad my X is related to the memory.

She helped pave the way for those females to be on the scene now. She doesn't need smoke, mirrors, sparkles, or plastic surgery to get noticed. She got your attention. What's ugly is how you young minded people think that these new artist are the best thing since sliced bread when actually nothing they do is really new. Just remixed styles of artist with real talent.
