Filmmaker Jonas Mekas, considered by many to be 'the Godfather of American Avant-Garde Cinema', received the title of George Eastman Honorary Scholar for artistic achievement on April 9, 2011. The event featured a special appearance by actor/director Peter Bogdavovich and a screening of Mekas' film Reminiscences of a Journey to Lithuania.
Mekas' career spans two continents and six decades. He is a cofounder of the Film-Makers' Cooperative, a founder of Anthology Film Archives, and author of "Movie Journal," a film column in the Village Voice.
Jonas is such an inspiration.
