This is one of the 2 red squirrels which I have been hand rearing since they were 2 weeks old.

Their drey was pulled out of a tree in a garden in Northumberland by a predator and they were found lying on the ground - no sign of their mother.

My friend had just given me this kitchen windowsill basil plant and I never thought to remove it before letting the squirrels out for their daily exercise.

Needless to say, I regretted it!!

  • this is THE reason we are not supposed to have them as pets ,,

& i know i will never do it but BUT this is THE reason i want one as a pet ,,

  • @WAPTek2 You and me both, sadly!

But they were given their freedom and thrived and knowing that they were spotted on a regular basis most mornings in the garden where they over-wintered for at least 2 years made all the work (and mess) so worthwhile.

  • Ooh cripes! Ya cant get cross withem though canu?

    Lill loves

  • I e-mailed this vid to my friend who gave me that plant and who had gone to Spain for the winter and she loved it!! Sent it all round the world to various people!

And you're right I couldn't be cross with them! You should see my house! There are holes in the ceiling, chewed bits out of the wooden kitchen units and knobs, even bits of enamel chewed out of the cooker!!

see all
