I'm sorry, I just don't happen to use them. I play with western music instruments, BUT I've seen the music sheets of a friend who plays the guzheng and she tells me that they are based on numbers 1-7, where each number corresponds to a letter in western music. (1 = C, 2 = D, etc)
The big part I'm not sure about is if the format has changed over time or it has had little to no change (like western music). That is why I say "I guess".
