This is a video of Lake Eola Park and the Christmas Star in Orlando, FL

Centennial/Linton E Allen Memorial Fountain:

The fountain at the center of Lake Eola was commissioned by OUC (Orlando Utilities Commission) and built on October 5, 1957 and was given the name Centennial Fountain as it was built during Orlando's Centennial year. Then, in 1965, the name was Changed to the Linton E Allen Fountain in honor of Linton Allen who came up with the idea for the fountain. He was the head of the 1st Florida Bank which later became Sun Bank. Since then, the fountain has become an icon of Orlando. It's in almost every promotional advertisement of Orlando.

Orlando's Christmas Star:
The star was bought by the presidents of the Dickson & Ives and Yowell & Drew Co department stores and hung across Orange Ave between the two stores in 1946 and was retired when the two stores (and many other department stores in downtown Orlando) moved to the Orlando Fashion Square Mall east of town in the late 1960's. The Star was brought back in 1984 and hung in it's original place where it still hangs to this day every Holiday Season. In 2010, it officially became known as the Jack Kazanzas Christmas Star in honor of Jack Kazanzas who raised the money to bring back the star as well as having it refurbished and improved.

Thanks to the City of Orlando for the historical info on the Linton E Allen Fountain and the Orange County Regional History Center in Downtown Orlando for the info on the Jack Kazanzas Christmas Star.

  • This was a wonderful video and well done. I am from Orlando. I worked in City Hall for 15 years (1983-1998). I remember Lake Eola when it was just a "municipal puddle." I am happy to see the fountain has been repaired. Most of the buildings were not there when I moved there in 1976.

The plaque in the beginning shows the names of Bill Frederick, Glenda Hood, Nap Ford and others. I knew all of them personally. I was Glenda's Computer Support person. Mary Johnson's son was a friend of mine. :)
