I am a teacher and a parent.

As I watch my son grow.

I am concerned about the world in which he is going to have to live.

The world is not a safe place

He lives in a world which has more and more computers in it.

The internet is an ocean of information.

It is an awesome tool.

But there are a few sharks swimming in that ocean.

If my child goes out on the playgrounds and is attacked by sharks do I want his school to never let him out on the playground again.

Or do I want them to teach him about the sharks so he can safely go out on the playground?

Does your school block facebook?

Do I want my child in a school that blocks social network sites?

Do I want my child in a school that does not use email and instead uses paper paper and more paper?

Do I want my child in a school that does not recognize the fact that computers and the internet are going to be a part of his world?

Is his school looking to the future?

Or is his school four walls a shelter against the real world or an island of the past?

Can my child respect such a school?

Can my child respect a teacher who is not willing to meet him in his world?

Will my child respect me if I am not willing to meet him in his world?

Are we preparing them for their world or ours?

  • You seem to know things about ICT technologies in classroom. Can you please tell me ,provided that you know of course, how can I use technology in a school with no computers or interactive blackboards?I've been searching for quite a while- I'm 22- but I couldn't seem to find any kind of teacher-gadgets that enable us to bring the technology in a classroom without contacting the manager and having thousands of euros spent.

  • @Nichrida I write a blog daily for my staff at the cyber school, it is called Teaching and Developing Onlne blog search for it and follow it. I allow write a weekly newspaper with useful links for teachers using technology...there is a link on the right hand side of my blog. I think they can both help...

    Good Luck

  • Another excellent video :) I have the same concerns for my boy. Jaden's old school was really good about educating the children on computer use both educationally and socially. He's responsible for the most part...(there was that time he tried to buy a car last year)...lol. I do believe teachers do play some type of role in educating our children on internet use...but I consider it mainly my responsibility. I hope you keep making these videos!

  • @indomitablefae I am happy you enjoy them...

  • Great video. I'm sharing this with teachers I know.

    Thank you.

  • @compteach98 I agree with you on that one...but I do not decide...the youtube people do...:)

  • @dcannell Oh, I found it! Thank you so much sir! :)

  • While you ask many of the same questions and make some of the same points, the tone of this video is much better than that of "You can't be my teacher." I think this likely would be a better conversation starter for that reason.
