Dick DeVos & China: "Provincial"

"The ad shows how Dick DeVos turned his back on the people of Michigan when he invested $200 million dollars in China instead of in this state," MDP Chair Mark Brewer said. "At a time when Michigan could really use a sizable investment, Dick DeVos took his $200 million dollars elsewhere and even eliminated 1,400 jobs in Michigan. DeVos' record is better suited for running for governor for a province in China than for governor of Michigan."

As President of Amway, Dick DeVos eliminated nearly 1,400 jobs in Michigan between 1998 and 2000. The 1,400 jobs never came back to Michigan and Amway suffered a net loss of Michigan jobs while DeVos was President. DeVos has admitted to investing $200 million in manufacturing plants in China. [Detroit News, 5/17/2006] According to the Detroit Free Press, "Amway—part of Ada-based Alticor Inc—considers itself an Asian company, with nearly 70% of sales coming from that region." [Detroit Free Press, 10/22/2004]

Do you actually believe this crap? The "buck stops here"? Puh-lease. Dick DeVos is Bush lite... you know, the president who can't think of a single mistake he's made in office. Republicans never take responsibility for ANYTHING, and if you think DeVos will be any different, you need to have your haed examined.

That's a pretty stupid comparison. Because we're not against opening plants in new countries, it means we're "Pro Outsourcing"? Considering Granholm can pass the blame on everything going wrong in the state, I think we deserve a leader who's willing to take a "buck stops here" attitude to leadership.

So you don't buy Ford, GM or Chrysler vehicles, right? They also have plants in Communist countries. Exporting jobs to china is happening now. Why would electing DeVos make it worse?

It's not false. 1400 Michigan jobs were gone, and thousands were created in China. There was $200 of capital investment in communist China that could've been made here in Michigan. I know it's shocking to think that a business could invest that much money in their home state, but I suppose exporting jobs to a communist country like China is "business as usual" these days. We'd better get used to it to, if DeVos gets elected. That, or we'll all be selling Amway soap to make a living.
