President Rajapaksa has told the visiting British and French Foreign Ministers that operations to liberate innocent Tamil civilians from the grip of the LTTE will continue.
He assured British Foreign Secretary David Milliband and his French counterpart Bernard Kouchner that no civilians will be harmed in this exercise. Clear instructions have been issued to the defence sectors in this respect. The President expressed optimism that they would be able to release the civilians as soon as possible from the grip of the terrorists. The President was replying to a query from David Milliband whether the operations can be carried out without harming the civilians.
The Foreign Ministers who are in the island at the Governments invitation met the President in Embilipitiya this aftenoon and had discussions. Attention was drawn to the welfare of the civilians liberated from the grip of the terrorists. Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama, Presidents Secretary Lalith Weeratunga, Foreign Secretary Dr. Palitha Kohona, Presidents Additional Secretary Gamini Senarath and Director General of the Foreign Ministry Shenuka Seneviratne were present at this meeting.
