  • I have played 'Mother Earth' at Florida State Summer Band Camp and 'Give Us This Day' in an honor band and I must say that David Maslanka is one of my all-time favorite composers.

  • I played Give Us This Day at all-region. Amazing song! wow. I loved that piece definitely.

  • Looks like I am going to have to revisit my hard-and-fast idea about what a "song" is. You're the second person who's said the same thing! Thanks.

  • @Jaysne it is still a song. each player sings their part while playing. i know i do. its the only way to hit pitches correctly on the first try.

  • One of my all-time favorite pieces! I never get tired of listening to it. (BTW, this is not a "song"--a song is a piece of music that is sung.)

  • Awesome! David Maslanka is the man! at 4:21 I hear some Give Us This Day mvt II after the "calming part", i like to call it...Give Us This Day is my all time favourite...

  • Thanks for posting this! I played this in college in 1997. I remember our director telling us we were doing the premier Texas performance. This is such a fun piece and brings back great memories.

  • i love the sound of this song, but it is so LONG!!! i have perc. 3 and at one point i don't play for over hundred measures!!! and I noticed a lot of missed/messed up parts (percussion wise)... some were very noticeable, some not so much... at least to me... but either way, the song is AWESOME

  • We're playing this in my symphony band. This song is so much fun. The asian theme is probably my favorite. I play the Eb Clarinet part for it. The runs are so much fun. It's so much fun. We have to learn it in less than a month.

The juggle between the first clarinets for solos at about 2:30 is really cool to listen to.

  • We just started working on this in our symphonic band and our director is determined to get it up to 180. We've been playing it at about 160 lately and that's blowing my mind. I can't imagine 180!

  • My band is playing this for our spring concert. We have to learn this in like a month (Ouch). It's frekin 7 PAGES LONG, THOUGH! Longest piece I have EVER played in my LIFE! D:

    But it DOES sound AWESOME!

  • Mother Earth = PWNAGE!

    I LOVE Mother Earth! <3
