@lostpunker2 I wouldn't necessarily call LAIN complex as the show has no real narrative direction and structure but is mainly centered around that one idea of the connection between the wired and real life and the blurring of the line that separates the two. LAIN is an incredible series not because of a complex and enthralling story line e.g. BACCANO, Count of Monte Cristo, Monster etc. But it's exploration of an idea in a unique and intresting way in without any narrative constraints

Yeah, it's called a 'firewall' these days ;). Basically they 'burn' for trying to enter your comp. You got it right, they are there, but virtually.

@AtheistTabbiChan But more than her just being advanced hardware, i think the movie is making a subtle hint (and i haven't seen it all just yet..) that they're ALL hardware.. or more that the wired was created to exploit the hardware/software system of the human mind and body but most of them don't realize it. There is a religious connotation here i think.. but it's subtle. I'm having trouble explaining my suspicions.. And i might be wrong.

@AtheistTabbiChan i usually ask people like this to offer their interpretation. Making a sweeping generalization like this means nothing unless there's substance to back it up. The synopsis she offered is the very top layer of what this movie is all about. There's so much more to it than that. For example, she has something to do with the wired that goes beyond user or even power user. That much i've figured out. I find it very unlikely she's just a little girl. I suspect she's a terminator :D

Lain is getting power in the wired, but she still is in the real world, in the other hand, those guys "aren't there" I guess she hurts them throught the wired that's why when the glasses of the guy got broken the computer reacted.
