OMG I love you!!! Something about your voice is soooo sweet! I have tried to make anything but a big square and have failed miserably :( Until I sat and listened to your tutorial. I am so excited to try this hat out. All I do is crochet all day long. I have learned how to make purses by connecting the gazillion of squares that I have made but I really wanted to know how to make a hat like this. Ur the best!! and so patient and informative. Thanks ALOT
A viewer asked about the song at the beginning. I wrote the lyrics and John Chafe composed the music and is singing the song. So far as I know it's never been published except on my videos.

Someone just sent me a message that they are not fluid with crochet. Smoothness comes with practice. I'm sure I was a complete klutz when I started. We all feel like we are all thumbs. Not to worry. Sooner or later it will come with frequent practice.

For hats I usually use a G or H hoot. And yes the hat is single crochet (SC).

Hi Loriann,
Yes, you can do it with double crochet, and it works up faster, though the increases and decreases are a bit trickier.

Thank you. I think it's harder to make granny squares Missionsfreak. Some complained that they couldn't see what I was doing, yet others seemed to have no trouble whatsoever following along. It's pretty hard to film oneself working with both hands and holding a camera. I've actually tried to avoid written instructions because it seems the one thing crocheters need is the ability to visualize & free themselves from written patterns.

Hey Kacey, I accidentally gave you a negative thumbs down. I'm soooooooo sorry. Anyone know how to fix it?
