Combining melancholy with a rocking electric guitar and upbeat acoustics, this perfectly captures the essence of Silent Hill. This song is so good that it's apparently the composer Akira Yamaoka's favourite song from the game.

Interestingly, the equally fantastic song "Tooth Paste" from No More Heroes 2 (which I uploaded as part of AVGM 180) seems to be inspired by this song with its melancholic structure and guitar use. Although Tooth Paste was apparently not made by Yamaoka according to the official soundtrack, Yamaoka actually did make a few songs in NMH2, Subuta.2 and Subuta.1, both of which I've AVGM'd (AVGMs 180 - the second song - and 188). I don't know if I buy that claim though; that song screams Yamaoka given its atmospheric quality and the fact that it's in the level that features Subuta.1 also raises my suspicions.

Dedicated to Linkara, my favourite Internet reviewer and the one who introduced me to this song, and VGCUtterSpartan, who exposed me to the full song.

  • @peanut3423 I think "Subuta.2" is actually called Psycho Soldier and .1 is called Twilight. Might wanna do some research into that, though; I don't remember where I heard it.

  • @SirReaI They aren't. Those are fan names. Subuta.1 and Subuta.2 are the official names according to the official soundtrack.

Besides, "Psycho Soldier" sounds more than a little bland.

  • Good song, isn't it? One of my favorites.

  • @VGCUtterSpartan

Just added a note dedicating this to ya, since you showed me the full song.

  • Wonderfully emotional song and you can definitely feel overtones of Tooth Paste in it too. Even sounds a bit like Do You Want More? too. I have a particular soft spot for when composers use heavy guitars as an emotional instrument, especially as it isn't the usual typical emotional instrument. Takes a true composing genius to make that a reality, it really does.

Yeah, I can hear some similar bits to Do you want more!, especially in the main guitar line.
