For two years, 1948 and 1949, the American Railroad Industry sponsored a great exhibition on Chicago's lakefront celebrating 100 years of railroad progress. My Dad attended both years and of course he took his movie camera and his boys with him.

  • Thank you! It was one of my fondest memories growing up in Chicago. I was 6 or 7. I remember the indians whooping it up riding in on their ponies and steam engine trains chugging on stage spewing red, white and blue smoke. Until today, I did not know what this memory was about until I saw your video. Big hug! My memory now has place attached to this even. It was the Chicago Railroad Fair of 1948-9!

  • @tangodelite Thanks, always glad to hear that my efforts are bringing enjoyment to others.

  • Always love your videos, this one is great. "One More Ride" is by the Sons of the Pioneers, right?

  • Thanks, glad you liked it (well, how could we not like it(:-)). Sons of the Pioneers with a little help from Roy Rogers of course.

  • nice shot of the 637. makes me wish IRM could restore her.

  • Well, you're young, you have nothing better to do with the rest of your life (OK, your parents probably wouldn't agree with that) so let it be a challenge (;>)).

  • I remember my folks taking me both years, It was fantastic. There has never been anything like it since. The 1949 version was not as large as the previous year.

  • neat vid...I went to this fair but I don't know which year...I was hoping to see myself but no luck lol

  • @844jim Riders in the Sky featuring Marty Stuart also has done a great version of it. Of course you can't beat the old Sons of the Pioneers, but the Riders are pretty darn good!

  • thanks for sharing..gr8 post.
