Mother Freedom by Bread is a tune that has been in my head for a very long time..I captured this video on the fourth of July, 2009, and decided this would be a good time to post this great Bread classic. For me, freedom is truly knowing that Jesus is my Lord and Saviour...he died on the cross that I am free to know what this life is all about...I always loved the message of this very cool song.

This is a video that was posted back in July 2009 that did not make the YouTube grade, so I placed it on Viddler...today I figured out how to download it from Viddler back to YouTube and it was accepted...yippee;-)

Lyrics:

Freedom - keep walkin'
Keep on your toes and don't stop talkin' 'bout
Freedom - get goin'
Lots to be learned and lots to be knowin' 'bout
People - gotta reach 'em
Sit 'em right down and then you gotta teach 'em 'bout
Freedom - gotta win it
Gotta put yourself smack dab in it

Hey tomorrow
Now don't you go away
'cause freedom
Just might come your way

Freedom - keep tryin'
People stay alive and people keep dyin' for
Freedom - so don't lose it
Ya gotta understand ya just can't abuse it
Freedom - get movin'
Never gonna stop till everybody's groovin' on
Love
for - one another
Callin' some friend
and callin' some brother

Hey tomorrow
You're not so far away
Mother
freedom
We'll know you well someday

Bread was a late rock/pop band from Los Angeles, California. They placed 13 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart between 1970 and 1977 and were a primary example of what later was labeled "soft rock", releasing a string of well-crafted, melodic soft rock singles.

The band consisted of David Gates (vocals, guitar, bass, keyboards, violin, viola, percussion), Jimmy Griffin (vocals, guitar, keyboards, percussion), Robb Royer (bass, guitar, flute, keyboards, percussion, recorder, backing vocals), Mike Botts (drums; joined in 1970), and Larry Knechtel (bass, guitar, keyboards, harmonica; replaced Royer in 1971).

I create videos to bring honour to the artist and the music...the songs that influenced my life...to bring a memory to someone and, most of all for future generations to hear for the first time.

  • "he died on the cross that I am free to know what this life is all about"

    Can you elaborate on this?

  • James/Jimmy Griffin is the guy belting this one out, if I'm not mistaken.

As to the OP's thoughts of "Jesus as Lord and Savior" and the way you view things: More power to you, my friend. I wish only the best for you. :D

    Thanks for the video!

  • IT'S NOT A 'SING A LONG' if you don't give us the words!! Sheesh! You're fired.

  • Wow! Does this song evoke a vivid memory! Summer of 1971. 18 years old! Was spending time on a deep sea offshore catamaran out of Clearwater Beach, Fl. The First Mate had the day off and we were at the dock. The slip was empty- boat was gone on their daily trip. It had just rained. We were leaving to go to a supply store on the mainland to get something for the boat's 12V-71 Detroits and this song came on the car radio as I was thinking about that boat that was somewhere out in the Gulf.

  • Yep--I still love this jewel~~~~

  • @TheIrishmary The record was a minor hit in the autumn of '71.... but a major hit with me!!

  • freedom forever!!!!

  • I dug this song right away.. much better than the top hits. loved it...turned many onto it............1968 i think

  • Hey, thanks Sherry! I have been trying to remember how this song went!! I was surprised when purchasing the Bread Anthology album that this was not on there. I remember buying the vinyl record (45) back when I was but a mere 12 years old! I always mention this song when people say that Bread could'nt rock. Check my posting on Guitar man about Larry Knectel. I wonder if he plays lead on this one? WIKI, here I come! lol
