If you can't figure it out, I'll tell you. We are in the main hall of Grand Central Terminal, looking at the departure board for the Hudson Line. Everything seems normal except for one thing: Albany. Wait...Albany? Why is Track 34 going to Albany? That's because Amtrak has rerouted most of their trains into Grand Central for this weekend and next weekend, the 25th and 26th. Here we see Amtrak Train 261, the 12:11AM train to Albany, listed to depart on Track 34. This is a rare event and if you can, come to GCT to see it for yourself. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Comments are welcome. The video was taken on October 18th, 2008.
I do think GCT is a really beautiful station! Do Amtrak still run trains out of GCT if there is engineering at NY Penn?

@howardkevinm True, but I think in a few years, with Amtrak's increased passenger loads (ridership this is expected to break 30 million passengers), running select trains to Albany out of GCT might not be totally insane.

There's people like me who would rather take Amtrak out of GCT. It really is a nicer station.

Yes. That would make a whole lot of sense. With 2 train stations al all!

the cost of operating two stations is pointless since amtrak has the connection between the new haven and hudson lines.

I wonder how many other times this has happened since the West Side Line was opened to Amtrak trains in 1991.

Of all my years of traveling amtrak out of Grand central. It is strange that that Amtrak does'nt go to grand central station anymore. Sad for people who travel to Canada (Toronto).
