Audio Remastered With alternate Lyrics .. This 1986 Performance turned out to be the last time the Smiths were on stage together & there was a great complicity between the members of the band so nothing hinted that within a year the Smiths would be no more.
What makes this gig even more special is that it turned out to be the only time that "Some Girls" was played Live, in concert for the first and last time ever.
Morrissey added an extra verse 2:40 "On the shop floor, there's a calendar, as obvious as snow, as if we didn't know".
Recorded Live at Brixton Academy, London, on the 12th December 1986 & Set to Backstage & Onstage VHS Video Footage of the band.

  • Some grills are bigger than ovens..

  • I love the beginning. A prime example of Johnny Marr's genius at work. A perfect melody, backed by Morrissey's beautiful voice and clever lyrics. One of the best songs ever made in my book.

  • @hanspeterpitsch

As often with the lyrics of Morrissey, no particular meaning other than camp, British humour. He is the funniest of song writers as well as writing very moving lyrics.

  • @ellenmeilee Thanks, but I still don't understand it :) What is the meaning behind it?

  • Hipsterdisco..... there is a video of this performance on YouTube and there definitely looks like there's tension between Morrissey and Marr (on this song at least)...They couldn't be further apart on stage. Marr doesn't move at all and shows no emotion. There's no real energy from any of them in contrast to the concert just a few months before (from which came the LP Rank)..Something definitely had gone wrong by that stage..I wouldn't say everything looked fine

  • @hanspeterpitsch That's a really good question!

It's either a direct quote from the British film 'Carry On Cleo' (about Cleopatra - if so, I bet Kenneth Williams was Antony) - if so, then only Morrissey has the genius to put it in his song lyrics, OR Moz just made it up himself - equally genius: who else but Moz would be inspired enough to imagine Antony saying, 'Oh, I say!' to Cleo whilst cracking open the beers.

Either way, classic, camp lyrics from the God that is Moz.

  • @ellenmeilee Can you please explain this line to a foreigner? :)

  • I love andys and mikes fade ins in the intro, it makes it perfect!

  • "As Antony said to Cleopatra as he opened a crate of ale...'oh, I say!'" - best lyric of all time.

  • that melody gives me shivers...it's just beautiful

  • i have not heard this version before!!! awesome video!! thankyou for posting this!!!
