A non-hit 1966 recording from England. Written by Jackie DeShannon after she saw this 1961 movie starring Natalie Wood and Warren Beatty. It's a great full arrangement like Phil Spector's girl groups.
Mixed with romantic scenes from the film.
There's nothing in the movie that happens "in the grass".

  • Thank you for uploading the song, and the nice video you put together. I had heard a few lines of this song a long time ago and it had been stuck in my head for decades..

A comment on the lyrics from lyricsmode: "These lines are essentially saying that we can't bring back the past, no matter how pleasant a certain time was, but rather than mourn and long for that time, we can cherish the memories of it and gain strength from it, as it has made us what we are."

  • I was 18 in 1966 when I first heard this song, it came out in the Summer but surprisingly never made the charts, it is an absolutely wonderful song that makes me feel 18 again, it really does capture the emotions of a love that you never forget.
