I wish someone could pinpoint when exactly the first episode of "Extended Play" aired. The only things I know about its early episodes are this:

The episode where they reviewed Paper Mario and Oni was episode #6, and it originally aired on February 23, 2001.

The original graphics that were used throughout the show were replaced in episode #16 (E3 2001). It aired on May 18, 2001.

The classic gaming expo episode was show #26 and it originally aired on August 17, 2001.

this is when Xplay was good. Extended play and Xplay were good from the start until about 2007.
