Mantic, thank you for taking the time to create videos that focus on traditional shaving! I am turning 30 in a month, and I have been using can goop and the latest multi-bladed contraption since I started shaving. For Christmas 09 I got a brush and mug (w/ soup) and have used your videos to really learn the technique. I love the brush on my face! You have convinced me to order a safety razor now (or wait till my birthday next month). I really look forward to shaving now! Thank you so much!

Mantic have you ever tried to shave in or after taking a sauna?
Imagine doing it IN a sauna after sitting there at least 30 minutes.
Your pores probably could not get open more then that.
And lather would be warm non-stop...

I'm 58 and grew up shaving with a double edge blade. I just went to buy some quadruple blade cartridges and finally got fed up with the price and ordered an Edwin Jagger razor along with the brush and shaving soap AND 100 Derby Extra razors, all this stuff was only about double what a large box of cartridges cost. I also remember how close double edge razors shaved and the best part was slipping them through the slot in the back of the medicine cabinet. Great video.

@rockergod789 Have you considered getting a tube of cream and using one of the coffee mugs in the hotel room as a make-shift lather mug?

@mantic59 i did some trial and error, and i found that a can of classic barbasol (!!!) gives me the best shave out of any drugstore brand. it's still not as good as Cella Crema da Sapone, though.

I think a little alcohol such as in Witch Hazel is good at least for me. Ive been doing some tinkering with different after shaves. Seems to me that the ones that contain a small amount of alcohol seems to calm my face quicker. Now im not speaking of just ol regular after shave that is 50% alcohol but say the 10% that is in Thayers/Humphries.

I charactered out (grin) ...anyway, I WILL NEVER go back to a mach 3 and canned shaving cream. I sincerely thank you for the inspiration to try this. My face instructed me to tell you that you changed its life. (grin) ....seriously, thank you for taking the time to do all these vids.
mantic, i know you're not partial to canned shaving cream, but can you recommend a brand that would be the most "wet shaver friendly"? i travel a lot, and i don't like to take my mug and soap with me, for fear my mug might get broken.

@rockergod789 depending on where you are and what products may be available, look for Cremo-Cream, Anthony Logistics, Real Shaving Co. products. Of the widely-available drug store products, King Of Shaves gel is pretty good. At least get something out of a squeeze tube--nothing out of a pressurized can!

hey mantic whats the difference between open and closed comb safety razors? and which one is better? cheers

@niallie1984 open comb razors are meant for really thick, multi-day (or week) beard growths; the comb "channels" thick hair towards the blade. Typically open comb razors are more aggressive than closed/safety bar razors.
