  • I once had a dream in which my Sony CFD-S28L had a light inside its tape deck. Battery acid can do so much damage, this is why I'm so paranoid about battery care and removing batteries from devices I'm no longer using. Does the unit have an internal power transformer, or do you need to use an AC Adaptor? When and where was the unit made? It's quite a large unit, sadly I've not had much experience with Bell and Howell gear.

  • It has to use an adaptor. I believe it was made in Japan in the '70s, and is made I think by Sanyo for Bell & Howell.

  • WOW, that is a very interesting machine! And someone just gave it to you, cool! I love the light in the cassette well, and it sounds excellent through your amplifier. I bet it has a mechanism similar to the Lloyds and others. Are the heads 4 track? How'd they get the tone signal on the OTHER side of the tape? Really NICE machine and good video, thanks!

  • It has a 2-track head, and one side records the audio, and the other record the beep. On this particular model, the tone track is a lot thinner than the audio track. The transport is like your Lloyd's, and in the video I did direct hookup to the camera.

  • We have this same exact model with case and all the accessories but have never tried it. It was passed down to us from an Uncle. After watching your video it has me wondering if this one even works. Hmmm......now where did I put those cassettes? Thanks for sharing the video.

  • Now that I think of it, the battery case in that unit reminds me of a Sanyo tape recorder that I have, I think the model number is M-148N.

  • Hey I remember that song you sang to youself it's off GTA Vice City for the PS2!

  • great machine...I also remember this recorder.

  • I really like that light for the tape spool window. That's the first time I've seen that feature.

I always wondered how some tape players were able to trigger a slide or film strip projector to the next frame automatically and without any audible beep... now I know, they put the beep on the other side of the tape!

  • Another quality cassette recorder. Sounds great :)

B&H is one of my favorite brands.
